Matcha lattes are one of my favorite ways to start my day. Matcha has a truly unique flavor that is a bit earthy and a touch sweet. It pairs really well with flavors like honey, lavender and chocolate, which is why I also love adding it to desserts like this matcha honey lavender ice cream or these incredible matcha brownies.

Blueberry Matcha Latte Ingredient Notes
- Matcha Green Tea Powder – Matcha is powdered green tea, so it lends that flavor to these brownies and is also responsible for their green hue. Choose a high quality matcha for the best flavor.
- Blueberries - Fresh or frozen blueberries will work in this match latte, however I find that if you're making an iced blueberry matcha latte, using frozen blueberries is preferable to keep the drink as cold as possible.
- Maple Syrup - I like to use real maple syrup as a sweetener, but you could also use honey, cane sugar or monk fruit if you prefer.
- Vanilla Extract - Adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract adds extra tastiness and depth of flavor.
- Milk - I used Ripple Plant Milk because it's my personal favorite, so you can use whatever your favorite type of milk is, too.
- Cinnamon - I find that a teaspoon of cinnamon really kicks the flavor up a notch, but you do not need to use it if you don't want to.
Step By Step Instructions
- Make the Blueberry Syrup - Add blueberries, maple syrup, vanilla extract and cinnamon to a blender and pulse until smooth. You may need to add a teaspoon of water to the blender if you are using frozen blueberries in order for things to blend up smoothly.
2. Prepare the Matcha - Add water and matcha to a small bowl and whisk in a zigzag motion for 30 second to one minute to combine.
3. Build the Blueberry Matcha Latte - If you are making an iced blueberry matcha latte, first fill a glass with ice. If you would like to enjoy it hot, skip this step and instead simply steam your milk of choice. Add the blueberry syrup first, then the milk and top it off with the matcha.
Blueberry Matcha Latte FAQs
What is Matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground powder of green tea leaves that is strongly concentrated. It has a high concentration of antioxidants and nutrients. It has a bold, earthy flavor.
What is the best type of matcha to use?
I recommend using a high quality ceremonial grade matcha for this latte.
How can I make this a hot matcha latte?
If you'd prefer a hot matcha to an iced blueberry matcha latte, simply omit the ice and be sure to steam or warm your milk. You can heat it on the stove top, microwave, or using the steam wand of your espresso machine if you have one.
Can I use sweetener other than maple syrup?
Yes! I prefer to use real maple syrup because it is a paleo friendly unrefined sugar, but you may use whatever sweetener you like.
What kind of milk should I use?
You can use whatever kind of milk you prefer. Personally, I prefer to use milk made from pea protein because it froths really well and I enjoy plant based milks, but you're welcome to use whatever you have on hand. I also enjoy using oat milk but tend to only use a little bit in coffee because it is higher in carbohydrates.
What if I don't have a matcha bowl and whisk?
Not to worry, you can use any small bowl you have at home along with a whisk or a fork! I do recommend this matcha bowl and whisk set though if you're a real matcha lover and make it at home often.
