It's the perfect easy, delicious appetizer for your Super Bowl party or anytime you're enjoying the football season! Made with just 5 simple ingredients you probably already have at home, this healthier dip is high in protein thanks to the nonfat greek yogurt and loads of shredded chicken. Not only is this recipe a crowd favorite, but it's a great way to use up any leftover chicken you have in the fridge.
I love an easy dip recipe for game day and this healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe is probably my most favorite appetizer recipe to make. It's a lighter version of a traditional buffalo chicken dip recipe because instead of loads of cream cheese, we're using high protein greek yogurt. This creamy dip comes together so quickly, with prep taking around 2-3 minutes and can be made in one oven safe bowl.

Healthier Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe Ingredients & Tested Substitutions
- Greek Yogurt - The base of this dip is plain greek yogurt instead of using sour cream. You can use non-fat greek yogurt or full fat greek yogurt depending on your preference. My favorite brand to use is Siggi's because it has around 19 grams of protein per serving.
- Cream Cheese - I tested this recipe with and without cream cheese and preferred it with the cream cheese simply because it made it a more creamy dip, but it will add more fat overall. If you're looking for a lower fat option that is still creamy you can omit the cream cheese or use low fat cream cheese, cottage cheese or more greek yogurt.
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese - I opted for shredded cheddar cheese over blue cheese crumbles because it melts much better. If you love blue cheese, instead of topping the buffalo dip with more shredded cheddar, you can top it with blue cheese crumbles instead, or both if you love extra cheese!
- Buffalo Sauce - I prefer using buffalo sauce that is garlic & onion free as I don't personally tolerate those ingredients. Plus, I find that garlic & onion free brands like Wing Time and Noble Made by The New Primal also use healthier ingredients in their buffalo sauces and if you're looking for a truly healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe then you'll want to skip using Frank's Red Hot Sauce (or not, that's up to you!)
- Shredded Chicken - I prefer to use 3 chicken breasts that I throw in the slow cooker for 3 hours and then shred myself. Many people use rotisserie chicken as well, but since you don't know what it was cooked with, making your own shredded chicken at home is the healthiest option.
- Green Onions or Chives - Great for garnish if you like them.
