If you are gluten and dairy free, you may be wondering where on Earth to buy desserts for the days when your sweet tooth just won't quit but you simply have no time to bake something from scratch. Well look no further because these store-bought gluten free dairy-free dessert options will be your savior the next time you're craving a treat fast! I've even included a section on Trader Joe's favorites for your next trip.
Dietary restrictions can feel daunting, whether it is you following a dairy free gluten-free diet or a family member that needs foods free from these allergens. Spending time reading ingredient labels is extremely important, especially if you or someone you are shopping for has celiac disease. But, sometimes you just want to be able to run into the store, grab some sweet treats and head home. The good news is, now you can do that with this list of the best dairy free and gluten-free options you can pick up the next time you're at the store!
Most of these goodies can be found in Whole Foods, which is where I typically do all of my grocery shopping. The good news is, many of these brands are national and can be found in chains like Stop & Shop, Shaws, Giant and more, or at online grocery stores like Thrive Market. I've even included a few options from the beloved Trader Joe's so you can keep an eye out for safe goodies the next time you're there!
What to look out for on ingredient labels
Something that is especially important to look out for is the certified gluten-free label on desserts like cookies, cookie dough, pie or pie crust, ice cream cones, etc. Anything that would traditionally be made with flour, you'll want to check the ingredients to ensure it is made with a gluten-free flour blend. This could be a blend of flours like gluten free oat flour, almond flour, coconut flour or tapioca, but it can also simply be gluten free all purpose flour.
For those with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance, be mindful of things containing milk chocolate. You'll want to opt for brands that use dark chocolate in their chocolate chip cookies or ice cream for example if you do not see a dairy free certification on the label.
