- It’s made with simple, healthy ingredients. Instead of a traditional soft serve mix, this Ninja Creami Dole Whip recipe uses frozen fruit, coconut yogurt, coconut milk, and protein powder for a sweet treat with no unnecessary added sugar.
- The cherry pineapple swirl makes it feel extra special. The best part is the gorgeous swirl. It looks like something you’d grab near the Enchanted Tiki Room, but it’s made in your own Ninja Creami machine with ingredients you can find at the grocery store.

Ninja Creami Cherry Dole Whip Ingredients & Tested Substitutions
For the Pineapple Swirl
Frozen pineapple chunks. These bring that classic pineapple flavor you expect from a creamy pineapple Dole Whip. You can also use fresh pineapple chunks or canned pineapple chunks that are drained first.
Coconut yogurt. I use Cocojune coconut yogurt because it gives the base a rich, creamy texture without dairy. It also helps mimic that soft-serve ice cream feel.
Unsweetened coconut milk. This helps blend the base smoothly and adds extra creaminess. Use canned coconut milk, not the kind from a carton as it can get icy.
Vanilla protein powder. This adds protein and gives the pineapple swirl a lightly sweet vanilla flavor. For best results, use a protein powder you already love the taste of because it will come through in the final recipe. My favorite dairy free protein powder is from Equip Foods. It tastes amazing and blends seamlessly into ninja creami recipes.
For the Cherry Swirl
Frozen cherries. These add a sweet, slightly tangy treat flavor that pairs beautifully with the tropical flavors of pineapple.
Coconut yogurt. This keeps the cherry swirl thick, creamy, and dairy-free.
Unsweetened coconut milk. A little liquid helps everything blend into a smooth ice cream base before freezing.
Vanilla protein powder or collagen peptides. Either option works here. Protein powder will make the cherry swirl sweeter and more ice cream-like, while collagen peptides keep the flavor more neutral.

How to Make Ninja Creami Cherry Dole Whip
Step 1: Blend the pineapple ice cream base. Add the frozen pineapple chunks, coconut yogurt, coconut milk, and vanilla protein powder to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Fill the pint container. Pour the pineapple mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, making sure not to go over the max fill line. Place the pint on a level surface before freezing.

Step 3: Blend the cherry ice cream base. Add the frozen cherries, coconut yogurt, coconut milk, and protein powder or collagen peptides to the blender. Blend until smooth, then pour into a separate Ninja Creami pint container.

Step 4: Freeze. Freeze both pints for a minimum of 8 hours, or up to 24 hours, until completely solid. For best results, make sure the pints freeze on a level surface.
Step 5: Spin in the Ninja Creami. Once fully frozen, place one pint container into the outer bowl. Add the outer bowl lid, twist to lock it into place, then place the outer bowl into the Ninja Creami ice cream maker.
Step 6: Use the Lite Ice Cream function. Power on the Ninja Creami machine and press the Lite Ice Cream button. Once the first spin is complete, the texture will likely look crumbly. That is normal, especially the first time.
Step 7: Add a splash of milk and respin. Add an additional splash of coconut milk, about 1 tablespoon for a softer soft serve function-style texture or 2 teaspoons for a firmer scoop. Press Respin until creamy. Repeat with the second pint.
Step 8: Make the swirl. Scoop the pineapple and cherry Dole Whip into a loaf pan in an alternating pattern. Gently swirl with a knife, then freeze for 20 minutes to set.

Step 9: Serve and enjoy. Scoop into bowls and enjoy your scrumptious ice cream treat immediately. For a more special occasion look, you can also add the mixture to a piping bag and pipe into bowls to create that classic soft-serve ice cream swirl.

Expert Tips & Tricks
- Do not overfill the pint. The Ninja Creami pint container should only be filled to the max fill line. This helps the machine process the ice cream properly and safely.
- Expect to respin. Most high-protein Ninja Creami recipes need at least one respin. The first spin can look dry or crumbly, but a splash of milk usually brings everything together into a creamy texture.
- Use protein powder you actually like. This recipe has simple ingredients, which means the flavor of your protein powder matters. A chalky protein powder will make a chalky Dole Whip. I recommend Equip Foods for a clean, dairy free option that tastes amazing.
- Freeze fully before spinning. The best time to spin this is after at least 8 hours of freezing. If the base is not fully frozen, the texture will not be as thick or creamy.
- Let the pint sit at room temperature if needed. If your freezer runs very cold, let the pint sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before spinning.
- For a softer texture, add more coconut milk. One tablespoon gives you a softer, almost soft-serve ice cream texture. Two teaspoons keeps it thicker and more scoopable.
Is This Like the Original Dole Whip?
This recipe is inspired by the original Dole Whip you’d find at Disney Parks, but it is not meant to be an exact copycat of the soft serve mix used at Disney theme parks. The real thing has that iconic pineapple treat flavor and ultra-smooth soft-serve texture, while this homemade version is made with healthy ingredients, coconut yogurt, fruit, and protein powder.
Think of it as a better-for-you, high-protein, creamy pineapple Dole Whip with a cherry twist. You still get a taste of your favorite frozen treat, but in a way that feels a little more balanced and easy to make at home.
FAQs
Can I use canned pineapple instead of frozen pineapple?
Yes. Canned pineapple chunks work well, but drain them first before blending. You can also use crushed pineapple, but the texture may be slightly icier because crushed pineapple usually contains more liquid.
Can I use pineapple juice in this recipe?
You can use a little pineapple juice in place of some of the coconut milk if you want a stronger pineapple flavor. Just keep in mind that pineapple juice can make the base a little icier, so I prefer coconut milk for the creamiest texture.
Can I make this without protein powder?
Yes. You can leave out the protein powder, but the texture and sweetness will change slightly. If skipping protein powder, you may want to add a little vanilla extract or a touch of maple syrup depending on how sweet your fruit is.
Can I use pudding mix?
I do not use pudding mix in this recipe because the coconut yogurt and protein powder already help create a creamy texture. Some Ninja Creami recipes use pudding mix as a stabilizer, but this one keeps the Dole pineapple whip ingredients a little more simple.
Can I make this in a Ninja Slushi machine?
This recipe was specifically tested for the Ninja Creami ice cream maker, not the Ninja Slushi machine. Since the machines work differently, I would not recommend using this exact recipe in the Slushi without adjustments.
Storage Tips
This Ninja Creami Cherry Dole Whip is best enjoyed right after spinning and swirling, when the texture is creamy and soft. If you have leftovers, smooth them back into a Ninja Creami pint container or freezer-safe container and freeze.
When you’re ready to enjoy it again, let it sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes, then scoop. For the best way to bring back that creamy texture, you can also re-spin it in the Ninja Creami machine with a small splash of milk.
