Blackberry Chai Simple Syrup Recipe – for Recess CBD Seltzer Mocktails | Pretty Delicious Life

Looking for a simple mocktail recipe to make at home? Maybe an easy mocktail recipe for game day or Valentine’s Day?! Then look no further than this Blackberry Chai Mocktail featuring Recess CBD Seltzer! This delicious blackberry chai mocktail is perfect for sipping fireside with your Valentine and will chill you out with each sip thanks to the addition of Recess CBD seltzer.

I personally love to enjoy this blackberry chai simple syrup as a mocktail, but you can also add your favorite whiskey, bourbon, or even vodka or gin if you’re looking for something a bit lighter in addition to the Recess CBD seltzer.

When making this easy mocktail recipe, I highly suggest using loose leaf masala chai tea, but you can also use tea bags for a less messy straining process. I also prefer to use fresh blackberries when making this easy blackberry chai simple syrup, but frozen works just as well!

So, what exactly IS Recess CBD Seltzer you ask? Recess Seltzers combine hemp extract and adaptogens like lemon balm, American ginseng, and L-theanine to help promote focus and calm by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system. These adaptogens were specifically selected for their known ability to help manage stress and promote feelings of calm when we need them most. I for one benefit from my daily dose of Recess CBD Seltzer most in the afternoon when my crazy day is starting to lead to my inability to focus, you know, the 3pm slump we all inevitably hit?! But, I also enjoy adding CBD seltzer to a delicious mocktail recipe at the end of the day when I really want to relax and unwind sans booze.

What do I need to make this easy mocktail recipe?

Recess CBD Seltzer: I used Blackberry Chai CBD seltzer by Recess as inspiration for this tasty blackberry chai mocktail. Recess CBD Seltzer is the perfect addition to your mocktail because the presence of CBD makes this virgin blackberry chai a drink that relaxes without the need for booze! All the chill with no hangover is a drink I know we could all get used to! You can shop for Recess CBD Seltzers here and use the code PDL15 to get 15% off your first order! If you purchase a sampler pack you can also check out my recipe for Virgin Pina Coladas, Cranberry Pomegranate Mocktails and Blood Orange Spritz for more ideas on how to enjoy CBD seltzer in mocktails!

Blackberries: You can use frozen or fresh blackberries in this blackberry chai mocktail. If you are following the low FODMAP diet and don’t do so well with blackberry, you can substitute 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries to make this CBD mocktail.

Masala Chai Tea: This is key in infusing the blackberry chai simple syrup with chai flavors! You could use chai spices instead if you have them on hand, but Masala Chai tea is my favorite way to infuse chai flavors into this simple mocktail recipe.

Coconut Sugar: When I make refined sugar free simple syrups I prefer to use coconut sugar. Monkfruit does not dissolve as well, I have found. You can also use organic unrefined cane sugar, but look out for a brand without Stevia in it (unless you enjoy the flavor of Stevia! I personally do not, but no judgement here if you do!)

Ginger Syrup: I added a bit of ginger syrup for a little extra zing, but feel free to skip it if you do not have this already at home. You can add a slice or two of fresh ginger to the pot while you are simmering the simple syrup if you’d like a little extra ginger flavor in your blackberry chai mocktail. Ginger is wonderful for digestion, so this would be the perfect after dinner drink if you’re adding ginger.

Cinnamon Sticks + Whole Star Anise: I love simmering whole cinnamon sticks and star anise when making chai simple syrup. They help infuse even more delicious spice into the simple syrup and it makes your home smell amazing to boot!

Ingredients

1 can Recess Blackberry Chai CBD Seltzer

For the Blackberry Chai Simple Syrup

2 cups water

1 cup coconut sugar

1/4 cup loose leaf masala chai tea

2 tbsp ginger syrup

1 cup blackberries

2 cinnamon sticks

1 whole star anise

For the Chai Sugar Rim

3 tbsp coconut sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cardamom

Make the Blackberry Chai Simple Syrup

  1. In a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat, bring two cups of water and 1 cup coconut sugar to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and add in ginger syrup, masala chai, cinnamon sticks, and star anise, stirring frequently to ensure sugar melts.
  3. Allow masala chai to simmer on low about 3-5 minutes before adding in blackberries.
  4. Simmer blackberries another minute while simultaneously mashing with a spoon.
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool at room temp.
  6. When the syrup has cooled, pour through a strainer into a large container to ensure no bits of tea, spices or blackberries make their way into the syrup. Once you have strained out all solid bits, using a funnel and a ladle, pour the simple syrup into a mason jar or container with a lid.
  7. Store in the fridge up to one week.
